The Bujinkan Dojo is the brain-child of Masaaki Hatsumi, 28th Soke of the Gyokko Ryu. In our opinion, the Bujinkan Dojo is best defined as, a family of people who share an inspiration for the martial art ideals Masaaki Hatsumi shares with the world. The Bujinkan is more than an organization with a given number of members of a given title, rank, and status, it is a reminder of the true spirit of the martial arts. It represents the embodiment of the philosophies and approach to martial arts training that Masaaki Hatsumi presents and preserves. The Bujinkan can be described as an energy that is felt and a philosophy that is embraced. A philosophy that is based upon becoming a well rounded and balanced human being. The term Tatsujin, or complete "being" is often used by Masaaki Hatsumi to describe the direction and benefit the training should provide. True members of the Bujinkan are not bound by politics and other manifestations of the ego. The Bujinkan is not a organization to strive to rise to the top of, or decide who is more qualified to represent it’s truth. The Bujinkan just is. An alias to the true spirit of the martial arts and the realizations that such a study provides humanity, that is the Bujinkan. In summation, an excerpt from the Bujinkan Dojo Guidelines,
"members come together with warrior hearts to better themselves through training and friendship. It evinces the glory of warrior virtue, and embodies both loyalty and brotherly love. The tradition of the Bujinkan recognizes nature and the universality of all human life."
The Bujinkan is a family, and it is comprised of very tolerant people, but like with any group of people there need to be rules to ensure that things run smoothly. To view the Rules of the Bujinkan please Click Here.
There are many opportunities for studying the teachings of the Bujinkan around the world. Here, you can find local training or research Hatsumi Sensei's writings and videos. |
